Amtrak has added an additional daily round trip to its commuter rail service between Raleigh and Charlotte, state transportation officials said. The additional service started operation at the beginning of June. The new line leaves Raleigh Westbound at 3:15 p.m. and leaves Charlotte Eastbound at 7 p.m. The rail trip between the two cities takes approximately 3 hours, 10 minutes. One-way tickets on the line cost $32.50. The new service was planned to coincide with the opening of Raleigh’s new Union Station, but the station opening has faced delays. After the station opens later this year, transportation officials said Amtrak will study the possibility of opening a fourth round trip line between the two cities.
